DENVER — Whatever it takes.
The Denver Broncos are always looking to improve, and they believe Adam "Pacman" Jones will make them better.
“He provides experience at corner and also as a punt returner," said Broncos head coach Vance Joseph. "John [Elway] and I meet every day about how can we get better as a football team. We thought having more experience at corner and having an experienced punt returner was a key factor for our football team and it was one guy that fit the bill. He solves two issues as one body. So we decided to sign Adam Jones.”
Joseph gave Jones an A+ grade on the field. Off the field, that mark would be far lower, but his new teammates didn't sound too focused on that. The players are all about the present rather than the past. They say they know Pacman can bring it.
“It adds more veteran guys that knows what’s going on out there on the field," cornerback Chris Harris Jr., said. "He’s played in this system. He knows the checks, he knows everything about it. It adds another veteran experience - a guy that has played a lot in the league.”
Former teammate on the Cincinnati Bengals, nose tackle Domata Peko, agrees.
"He’s going to ride with the team and whatever color uniform we’re wearing," Peko said. "When we were at Cincy, he was riding for Cincinnati. Just like he is here, he’s a Bronco and he’s going to ride with our defense."
Peko also spoke to Jones's ability to make crucial plays.
"If we’re running the ball outside, he’ll stick his helmet in there and make a hit for us. That’s what I love about him. I love how he plays aggressive, and not only does he play defense, he’s a hell of a returner as well," Peko said. "You can use him in that aspect as well. I really like the signing and I think it’ll be good for our defense. You can never have too many good cornerbacks because that’s all that they do now-a-days is pass the ball around the league. It’s good to have a lot of good corners.”
Joseph wouldn't say if Pacman will play in Arizona in the preseason finale, but he'll be on the field soon.
