EAGAN, Minn. — A familiar face is returning to the roster for the Minnesota Vikings.

The team announced Tuesday that it has agreed to a trade with the Houston Texans to bring running back Cam Akers back to Minnesota.

Under the deal, Minnesota also receives a 2026 conditional seventh-round draft pick, while Houston receives a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick. The trade is contingent on Akers passing a physical.

It's a deja vu for Akers, who was also dealt to the Vikings in a trade from the Los Angeles Rams last season. He appeared in six games for Minnesota with one touchdown before suffering a torn Achilles in Week 9 of the 2023 season. So far this season, Akers has rushed for 147 yards on 40 carries, along with four receptions with the Texans.

Akers' return to the Vikings will provide depth at running back following a hip injury to Aaron Jones, Sr. against the Jets in London.
