DENVER – More than 18,000 runners took to the street during Colfax Marathon weekend – and one of them set a course record on the half marathon course.
Hais Welday finished the race in 1 hour, 6 minutes and 44 seconds – shattering the previous record set by Colorado Springs resident Patrick Rizzo, who finished second in this year's race.
Ramon Paredes-Becerra of Mexico won the full marathon in 2 hours, 36 minutes and 13 seconds. Andrew Simmons from Lakewood came in second.
Englewood resident Nicole Chyr won the marathon on the women's side, finishing in 3 hours, 2 minutes and 4 seconds. Chyr is no stranger to the podium at Colfax: she set the course record in 2012, and has won four times.
Nuta Olaru won the women's half marathon in 1 hour 22 minutes and 46 seconds, and Highlands Ranch resident Kristin Louderback came in second.
