DENVER — The University of Denver is still on top of the college hockey world.
All eyes remain on the Pioneers, who are coming off an NCAA-record 10th national championship title, as the first rankings for the upcoming 2024-25 season were released Monday.
DU came in at No. 1 in the USA Hockey preseason poll, receiving 27 out of 34 first-places votes for 670 total points. The next-closest team was Boston College with 644 points and four first-place votes. Denver topped Boston College in April to capture the national championship.
Denver finished 2023-24 with a 32-9-3 overall record, marking the third-straight 30-win campaign—a first in program history—and the Pios extended their "Tenzer" Streak (at least 20 wins) to 22 consecutive full seasons dating back to 2001-02.
The Pioneers finished second in the NCHC regular season with a 15-7-2 mark in league play but went on to capture their third NCHC Frozen Faceoff trophy as conference tournament champions.
DU kicks off the 2024-25 season with a two-game road trip against Alaska Anchorage, beginning Saturday.
The Pioneers will return to Magness Arena for their home opener on Friday, October 18 with a two-game set hosting Northeastern.
Denver is entering its seventh season under head coach David Carle.
