School of Mines football ranked No. 1 for first time ever

The Orediggers football team holds the top spot in both the AFCA coaches' and D2football.com media polls.

GOLDEN, Colo. — Colorado School of Mines football is ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II for the first time in program history.

The football team holds the top spot in both the AFCA coaches' and D2football.com media polls this week.

The Orediggers football team (7-0, 5-0 RMAC) is the sixth Mines program to be ranked No. 1 in a national poll all-time, joining men's basketball, men's cross country, golf, men's soccer, and men's track and field.

School of Mines Athletics said its men's cross country team is also No. 1 in Division II in their most recent poll out last week.

The Orediggers travel to Black Hills State on Saturday before returning to Golden on Saturday, Oct. 28.

"Colorado athletics have been taking the spotlight, and Colorado School of Mines is earning the buzz as they made program history ranking No. 1 and found the top spot in the AFCA coaches' and D2football's polls earlier this week," Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said on X.
