BOULDER, Colo. — Karl Dorrell took his dream job in February.
One month later, it's uncertain when he'll be able to coach again.
The new CU head football coach talked with reporters on a conference call Thursday afternoon and discussed a variety of topics, including whether or not the COVID-19 pandemic could delay or postpone the 2020 college football season.
“Those (thoughts) have crossed my mind. (But) it’s hard to fathom that at this point being that we’re still in March," Dorrell said. "I know it’s going to take some time for this pandemic to calm down and be under control. We’re hoping that it’s not going to affect the season but there is that possibility; we have to be prepared for any and all things that could happen."
It has to be a strange time for Dorrell. If Mel Tucker hadn't left CU in early February for Michigan State, the new man in charge at Colorado would still be a coach with the Miami Dolphins.
Still, he has the proper perspective on what truly matters right now, and football isn't at the top of the list.
“Obviously the whole world is dealing with the pandemic that’s going on. It’s put us a little bit behind in terms of not being able to get out on the field, but we’ll deal with this," Dorrell said. "It’s more important right now that we have the health and safety of our country. We need to do what’s right and we’re part of that process too.”
For now Dorrell and the Buffs, like the rest of the world, will wait for things to return to normal.
