FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Tory Horton's time playing for the Colorado State football team is over.
The star receiver will have season-ending surgery, the program announced Monday night.
Horton injured his knee during Saturday's win over San Jose State. He was injured late in the first half and briefly returned in the second half but was clearly hobbled.
CSU did not release specific details on the injury.
"I am appreciative of Tory’s loyalty to the staff and for his sacrifice and leadership to CSU," coach Jay Norvell said in a news release.
Horton is in his third season at CSU after following Norvell and staff from Nevada. He has 2,620 receiving yards at CSU (sixth in program history). Horton had 17 receiving touchdowns at CSU, also scoring on three punt returns and throwing one touchdown.
His CSU and Nevada receiving yardage combined is 3,615, leaving him 35 yards from breaking the Mountain West all-time receiving yardage held by CSU great Rashard Higgins.
"I will continue to be the ultimate teammate and captain for this team and will do whatever I can to help make this a memorable season," Horton said in a news release. "I will forever cherish my time playing at Colorado State and wearing the Green and Gold. Thank you to my teammates, coaches and fans for all the love and support. A goal of mine has always been to play on Sundays, and I will make that happen."
Horton's return to CSU for the 2024 season was expected to be a big boost for the Rams, as he opted for one more year with the Rams instead of entering the NFL draft.
