FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Niko Medved is staying at Colorado State with a new contract and a big raise.

CSU announced an extension for the men's basketball coach Monday afternoon.

The deal runs through 2028-29 with options for additional years in 2029-30 and 2030-31. The contract calls for a salary of $1.7 million in 2024-25, rising to $2 million for the 2030-31 option. Medved made $1.1 million this past season.

It brings him close to even with CSU football coach Jay Norvell as one of the highest paid employees at CSU. Norvell is set to make $1.8 million for the 2024 season.

Medved was a name frequently appearing on lists of potential candidates for high-major openings following the 2023-24 season, with West Virginia and Oklahoma State the two most publicly reported as him being in the running for.

“My family and I are so thankful to be a part of the Colorado State men’s basketball program and Fort Collins community,” Medved said in a news release. “I want to thank University President Amy Parsons and interim Director of Athletics John Weber for believing in me, our program, and what we have built in the past six years on and off the court. Their commitment to the men’s basketball program continues to help us push forward in the ever-changing landscape of college athletics. I look forward to many more nights of Moby Madness and the support of the Colorado State community in the future!”
