'Headband Joe' living his Division I dream at CSU

Joe Palmer is in his second season with the Rams after transferring from Division III Augsburg University.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Rams guard Joe Palmer is a fan favorite

But it’s not just his gritty game that gets the crowd going. It’s his … headband?

Against San Diego State, on his birthday, when the Rams beat the Aztecs, headband Joe had his own night. Colorado State handed out 2500 Joe Palmer headbands to students.

“If you would have told me a while back before I got here, I never would have believed you,” Palmer smiled as he reminisced on the night. “But it was great, man. It’s so fun to see Moby like this and to see people wear headbands. I’m just glad I can be a smiling face.”

He even got CSU president Amy Parsons to wear a headband!

“Everyone loves her a lot too. She’s awesome. Just seeing her wear the headband was awesome.”

Rams Head Coach Niko Medved loved the attention his guard got, “Guys joked this morning that I mean, who the heck has their own day? What a great young man, what a great story for him coming here and brings us so much energy and joy as as a teammate and person.”

You could say Medved found a diamond in the rough while recruiting in his home state of Minnesota. Palmer spent three seasons dunking on dudes while playing Division III ball in Minneapolis.

But now the sharp shooting, fashion icon is living the Division I dream, “This is what I used to think about when I was a little kid shooting in my parents driveway and now it’s like turned into reality.”

Headband Joe is trying to soak in every last moment of his DI experience, “Every time I come in here, I really try to take little snapshots of all this;. I try to take it all in because in Division III, there were some good crowds but nothing like here you know so, getting nights like this man, it’s nothing better.”
