FORT COLLINS — Welcome to Canvas Stadium.
On Tuesday, Colorado State University announced its new on-campus multipurpose stadium would be rebranded as Canvas Stadium.
Canvas Credit Union received the naming rights through a $37.7 million partnership earlier this year. It marks one of the largest collegiate athletic venue naming agreements in history.
"Congratulations to Todd Marksberry and the entire Canvas Credit Union family as they move forward with a new name while maintaining their decades-long commitment to serving the people of Colorado," CSU President Tony Frank said in a statement. "We're proud that the home of the CSU Rams will now be known as Canvas Stadium moving forward, and we could not be more pleased that the partnership we have established with Canvas will create more opportunities to serve our students, our state and its citizens."
Canvas Stadium -- which holds 41,000 fans -- had a very successful inaugural season in the fall. The Rams set an all-time attendance record in 2017, with 192,369 fans (an average of 32,062).
The field itself will continue to be called Sonny Lubick Field. An anonymous donation is paying for those naming rights, that honor the legendary CSU coach who led the Rams from 1993-2007.
