KUSA - For DU freshman Zach Miller lacrosse is more than just a sport, it's a way of life.

"Lacrosse is a Native American sport," said Miller. "Ever since you could walk or when your born into the Native American community you're given a little wooden lacrosse stick."

Despite the importance of lacrosse, Miller said only a small number of Native American's actually leave the reservation to play lacrosse and even fewer have success like Zach, in fact Miller has become a role model.

"Going back home now to see all the little kids looking up to me, I'm kind of like paving the way for the next generation to continue to go to school and college and play lacrosse at the next level.

"Miller has made an impact not just back home, but with the Pioneers as well, even with Head Coach Bill Tierney.

"I've learned more from Zach than he certainly has from me," said Tierney. "I've been in this game a long long time, but what he's taught me about his approach to the game, he gets it, you get the truth from Zach all the time."

Zach is the 3rd leading scorer at DU, as a freshman and his team is in the elite 8 of the NCAA tournament. The future for Miller and the Pioneers in certainly bright.
