Colorado-Baylor weather not looking prime: Here's the rainy weekend forecast

CU football coach Deion Sanders argued about Mother Nature on Tuesday, refusing to prepare for a possible downpour in Boulder on Saturday.

BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders addressed the media Tuesday as the team prepares for its first Big 12 Conference game in 14 years.

The CU Buffs (2-1) and Baylor Bears (2-1) kick off in a nationally televised game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Folsom Field in a game that is likely to be impacted by the weather.

9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Bianchi said a trough of low pressure is headed to Colorado on Friday and Saturday, with the potential for several hours of steady rain along the Front Range on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

The rain could disrupt both the CU football game in Boulder and the Colorado Rapids home match on Saturday night, Bianchi said.  The storm system will drop the Front Range temperatures to just around 70° for a high on Saturday.

The Denver area may barely climb into the low 60s on Sunday with mainly cloudy conditions. This storm could also lead to snow down to pass level for the first time this season in the Colorado high country, especially along and north of Interstate 70.

Sanders downplayed Saturday's rain potential in his Tuesday press conference.

"We’ve got rain? What forecast you got?" Sanders said before pulling out his phone to verify the forecast. "I’m one of those good weather (people) — when you say 60% (rain), I say there’s a 40% chance that it won’t."

A reporter asked Sanders if he would prepare for the rain by doing special wet-ball drills this week.

"We're not going to take time out during practice to do a drill based on something that might not happen," Sanders said. "Let's do drills that say it won't rain."

CU Athletics announced the homecoming game against Baylor will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday and be televised nationally on FOX. Baylor defeated Air Force 31-3 last weekend.

The Buffaloes will appear on all four networks in the same season for the first time in school history. Games this season are now scheduled to air on FOX, CBS, ABC and NBC.

The Baylor game will be the first Big 12 Conference game for the Buffaloes in 14 years. Tickets for the game at Folsom Field sold out in August. CU Athletics said fans interested in purchasing tickets can purchase via CU's ticket partner SeatGeek.
