BOULDER, Colorado — University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said Tuesday at his weekly press conference that he's praying for the four juvenile suspects identified in the burglary of jewelry from the Buffaloes' locker room during their game last month at UCLA.
After the Buffaloes' loss to the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl on Oct. 28, multiple players said personal jewelry left in their locker room had disappeared. Well Off Media, operated by Deion Sanders Jr., posted a video of Colorado players outside the locker room after the game talking about the incident.
According to the Associated Press, Lisa Derderian, a public information officer for the city of Pasadena, California, said Tuesday that four juvenile suspects have been identified and the case turned over to LA County's juvenile division. Derderian said some of the items were sent back to Colorado.
On Tuesday, Sanders said it's unfortunate that his players were on the other end of the theft but that the suspects are only kids who made a mistake.
"Let's not crucify and punish these high school kids," he said. "Whatever the punishment that comes along with it, let it be that. Community service or whatever it is. But let's not abort the rest of their opportunities, their lives, because of a mistake."
He went on to say, "They're kids. They made a stupid, dumb, idiotic mistake. Guess what? When I was 17, 18, so did I. So did you. I'm praying for those kids."
