BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has seen his "Saturday Night Live" parody.
Sanders, at his weekly news conference Tuesday, was asked about "Saturday Night Live" having a little fun at his expense in its Oct. 14 season premiere.
"SNL" cast member Kenan Thompson portrayed Coach Prime on the program's "Weekend Update" segment, dressed in Sanders' trademark hoodie, baseball cap and sunglasses. In the sketch, an over-confident Sanders boasted about his team winning "every game."
Sanders smiled when he was asked about Thompson's portrayal.
"I'm a fan of Kenan, let's get that straight. I love him. I love what's he's brought to comedy over, what, got to be over a couple decades it seems as though," Sanders said.
"I had the pleasure and the honor to host 'Saturday Night Live' before, and I will never forget those moments. But it was good," Sanders said of Thompson's performance.
"The person who I think has me down the most is ... I got to give it to Lou Young," Sanders said. "I hate to admit it, but Lou is good. Lou Young is really good."
This weekend, Sanders and his Buffaloes (4-3) travel to Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena to face head coach Chip Kelly and the UCLA Bruins (5-2) on Saturday, Oct. 28. The game will kickoff at 5:30 p.m. MT and will be televised nationally by ABC.
"I'm a Chip Kelly fan. I really am. I love what he's brought to college football. I love what he's brought to football period," Sanders said. "I took Shedeur to a camp there, and I remember having dialogue with Coach Kelly and just what he brought to the table. I respect the heck out of him and admire his accomplishments, not just in college but the pros as well."
Sanders said he wished his team didn't have the bye week, as he would have preferred to have a game more quickly after the Buffs lost a double-overtime game to Stanford.
After the Buffs travel to UCLA, Colorado returns home to Boulder for another nationally televised game.
Colorado hosts the Oregon State Beavers (6-1) on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Folsom Field. The game will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. MT and will be televised nationally on ESPN, the Pac-12 Conference announced Monday.
Colorado has already played two 8 p.m. games at Folsom Field on ESPN this season. Coach Prime is not fan of those late prime-time kickoffs.
The late games don't finish until after 11:30 p.m. and can even carry into early Saturday. Each of Colorado's late starts have also extended into double overtime.
“Who makes these 8 o'clock games? Dumbest thing ever. Stupidest thing ever invented in life. Who wants to stay up until 8 o'clock for a darn game?” Sanders said on his weekly radio show. “What about the East Coast — do they even care about ratings? Is anyone watching it? What are we supposed to do with the kids all day until 8 o’clock? What are we supposed to do in the hotel?”
