CU Buffs to play football game on NBC for first time in 29 years

CU will play its first game on NBC since the 1995 Fiesta Bowl as the Buffaloes take the field for a second season under Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders.

BOULDER, Colo. — Deion Sanders and the CU Buffs will be on national TV for a big showdown with Nebraska.

The Colorado Buffaloes and Nebraska Cornhuskers will play on NBC for the Week 2 rivalry game.

The game will kickoff at 5:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, Sept. 7, on 9NEWS and NBC affiliates across the country.

The Buffs won last year's game against Nebraska 36-14 in Boulder. This year's will be played at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

The college football Week 2 game will be part of NBC's "Big Ten Saturday Night" football showcase, which is returning for a second year, NBC announced.

Colorado has not played a game on NBC since the 1995 Fiesta Bowl.

This will be the eighth game in CU history on a national broadcast on NBC, with six of the other seven being bowl games, including the 1962, 1977, 1990 and 1991 Orange Bowls and the 1993 and 1995 Fiesta Bowls.

CU opens the 2024 football season on Thursday, Aug. 29, against North Dakota State. The kickoff time and television provider for the game slated for Folsom Field are still to be determined.

This fall marks the second season the Buffs will take the field led by Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders. The Buffaloes also return to the Big 12 in 2024, their first season in the conference since 2010.

The Buffs open the season with three non-conference games. The opening game against North Dakota State will be followed by road games against rivals Nebraska on Sept. 7 and Colorado State on Sept. 14.

CU said the last time the Buffs played in both Lincoln and Fort Collins was in the 1996 season, which is also the last time Colorado played at Colorado State.

Colorado ends the 2024 season at home the day after Thanksgiving, on Friday, Nov. 29, against Oklahoma State.
