Three CU Buffs selected in NBA draft, two in first round

Cody Williams and Trista da Silva were first-round draft picks Wednesday, while teammate KJ Simpson followed in the second round Thursday.

NEW YORK — A trio of CU Buffs are going from Boulder to the pros.

Cody Williams and Tristan da Silva, who played significant roles for the University of Colorado men's basketball team, were both selected in the first round of the 2024 NBA draft on Wednesday night.

Williams heard his name called first at Barclays Center when the Utah Jazz took the 6-foot-8 forward with the No. 10 overall pick. The highest-ranked high school recruit in program history, Williams spent only his freshman season in Boulder, averaging 11.9 points for the Buffaloes.

He is the highest-selected CU player since Chauncey Billups (No. 3 in 1997).

Da Silva, a 6-foot-9 forward, was selected No. 18 overall by the Orlando Magic. He played in 124 career games (98 starts) during four seasons (2020-24) at the University of Colorado.

Colorado teammate KJ Simpson was taken in the second round Thursday by the Charlotte Hornets at No. 42.
