ATLANTA — The Atlanta Hawks made massive waves across the NBA on Friday after ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the team is trading star guard Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans.

In return, the Hawks are receiving two future first round picks, Larry Nance Jr. and Dyson Daniels. The first round picks come via a 2025 pick via the Lakers and a 2027 pick, which will be the least favorable between the Bucks and Pelicans, according to ESPN.

Murray was a force in the Hawks backcourt alongside Trae Young over the past two seasons. Murray averaged 21.5 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, 6.3 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game. He is the only player in franchise history to average 20/5/5, according to Stat Muse.

The trade also comes less than a year after the Hawks finalized a four-year, $64 million contract extension with Murray last offseason and two days after Atlanta took wing Zaccharie Risacher with the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.

Murray played five seasons with the San Antonio Spurs before he got dealt to Atlanta for Danilo Gallinari and three first-round picks in 2022, where he was expected to be a cornerstone of the franchise for a long time. Murray was an All-Star in San Antonio in 2021-22 but did not make an All-Star team while he was with Atlanta.
