Right as Denver Nuggets fans were ramping up their excitement for Michael Porter Jr. to take the floor, the forward suffered a left knee sprain on Wednesday that is likely to keep him out of Summer League play.
Porter Jr., who was selected by Denver with the No. 18 overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft, missed all of last season due to injury and was expected to get his professional career going this offseason.
Assistant coach Jordi Fernandez noted that Porter Jr.'s injury isn't serious and that they expect him back on the floor soon.
"We know the type of player he'll be for us," Fernandez said. "Yes, it's unfortunate. But he'll be back soon."
Porter Jr. played in just three collegiate games at the University of Missouri, averaging 10 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest.
