CPW calls out Nikola Jokic for not wearing life jacket

The Denver Nuggets star is enjoying his offseason with a rafting trip. Colorado outdoor experts are offering advice about personal flotation devices.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, β€” Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic is enjoying his offseason in the outdoors.

The three-time NBA MVP was recently spotted on a whitewater rafting trip on Tara, a river in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In video shared on social media, Jokic is seen traveling down a river on a raft β€” but without a life jacket.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) called out Jokic for failing to wear the proper safety equipment while on the water.

"Hey Nuggets, can we record an assist and send our three-time MVP Nikola Jokic a life jacket from our [CPW] loaner program?" CPW posted. "Happy to mail one out internationally, and we’ve got them for all sizes, including 6-11 basketball superstars!"

In Colorado, state law requires everyone to have one personal flotation device for each person when on the water.

CPW has teamed with the U.S. Coast Guard to provide free loaner life jackets for boaters.

Colorado water restrictions

Restrictions for water activities in Colorado, along Clear Creek in Golden and Jefferson County, went into effect Wednesday morning, as the spring melt picks up.

The temporary restrictions will limit certain activities and are in effect from the western boundary of unincorporated Jefferson County through the eastern limits of the City of Golden, including Vanover Park, the sheriff's office said.

Kayaks, whitewater canoes, multi-chambered professionally guided rafts, and river boards are exempt, however, everyone is urged to use extreme caution due to the safety concerns surrounding swift-moving water and floating debris.

Anyone participating in the allowed activities above must be using a Coast Guard-approved flotation vest and helmet designed for water use.
