DENVER — Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic joined some pretty exclusive company after winning his third NBA MVP award in four years. He became just the ninth player to ever be named the league's Most Valuable Player at least three times.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the only player to win the award six times. LeBron James, who has won the award four times, is the only active player who has been named MVP more than Jokic.
Here's every player who's won the award for the NBA's Most Valuable Player at least three times:
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6)
- Michael Jordan (5)
- Bill Russell (5)
- LeBron James (4)
- Wilt Chamberlain (4)
- Nikola Jokic (3)
- Larry Bird (3)
- Magic Johnson (3)
- Moses Malone (3)
Shaquille O'Neal, who recently made news by telling Jokic that Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander should've won the award this year, was a perennial fixture in the MVP voting for about a decade but won only once in 2000.
