'This is really my boy': Bones Hyland speaks after comments draw attention

During Hyland's introductory news conference with the Los Angeles Clippers, he made comments that some interpreted as a slight against former teammate Jamal Murray.

DENVER — Bones Hyland is now on the Los Angeles Clippers after he was traded last week, but some recent comments are drawing the attention of Denver Nuggets fans.

During the second-year guard's introductory news conference with his new team Monday, he said something that some interpreted as a slight against former teammate Jamal Murray.

The remarks in question came during an answer to a question asking how playing with Nikola Jokic and Murray might help Hyland with his new superstar teammates, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

“It was a great experience playing with Joker," Hyland said toward the end of his response. "Two guys over here who are phenomenal talents, and over there there’s one guy with phenomenal talent as well.”

Hyland quickly responded on Twitter after the video of his response began drawing attention from people trying to interpret what his comments implied about Murray.

"I never threw no shots y’all just be fishing," Hyland tweeted.

He went on to call Murray "his boy" in another tweet.

"Everything is great between me & mally that’s my guy 4L," Hyland said.

The Nuggets traded Hyland to the Clippers for 2024 and 2025 second-round picks.

The 6-foot-3 guard was taken 26th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft after his sophomore season at Virginia Commonwealth University. On the season, he's averaging 12.1 points on 39.9% shooting, 3 assists and 2 rebounds in 19.5 minutes a game.
