Report: Dallas Mavericks trade guard to Detroit Pistons

Hardaway Jr. averaged 14.4 points during the regular season in 26.8 minutes per game. Those numbers dropped to 4.4 points in 12.7 minutes in the 2024 playoffs.

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks have traded guard Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski

Hardaway Jr. was sent to the Pistons in exchange for Quentin Grimes. Dallas also sent Detroit three second round picks in the deal. Here is a complete breakdown:

  • Tim Hardaway Jr.
  • 2025 second round pick
  • 2028 second round pick
  • 2028 second round pick

Hardaway Jr. averaged 14.4 points per game over the course of the regular season while averaging 26.8 minutes per game. In the 2024 playoff run to the NBA Finals, those numbers fell to 4.4 points per game in 12.7 minutes.

According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, moving Hardaway Jr.'s contract frees up some cap space to offer Derrick Jones Jr. the $12.9M nontaxpayer midlevel exception. Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison has emphasized re-signing Jones in the offseason.
