DENVER — Each of the Rockies’ All-Star candidates was going to be a first timer, but Ryan McMahon received the nod to represent the club in Texas.
He was announced as Colorado’s participant Sunday and became the club’s first third baseman to earn a spot since Nolan Arenado’s run from 2015-2019. They have only had one representative the last four years — each major league club gets at least one.
The last time they had more than one was in 2019 when Arenado, Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl, and Trevor Story went to Cleveland.
McMahon often lived in the shadow of Arenado and was forced to switch positions at one point to garner playing time. He’ll get a chance to take the spotlight in his eighth major league season alongside Alec Bohm.
Ezequiel Tovar, Brenton Doyle and Cal Quantrill each had All-Star cases too as the club continues to rebuild.
