On this day in sports: Colorado Rockies play their first MLB game

On April 5, 1993 the Rockies took the field for the very first time against the Mets in New York.

NEW YORK — The Colorado Rockies are creeping closer to their 30th anniversary, which they will celebrate in 2023. 

It's hard to believe it's been that long since Colorado has had an MLB franchise to call its own. 

And it all began on April 5, 1993, when the Rockies and Mets squared off in Shea Stadium for the team's first ever official game.

Colorado lost to New York 3-0, but the fact the region finally had a team made the score feel irrelevant.
