DENVER — German Marquez’s season ended a month after it started.
The Rockies starting pitcher is being shut down for the season due to a stress reaction in his right elbow, manager Bud Black said at Coors Field prior to Thursday’s game against the Mets. Black added the injury is not related to the ulnar collateral ligament Marquez had repaired last summer.
Marquez made his return from the injury on July 14, going four innings against the Mets. He set the franchise record for career strikeouts in that game but was placed on the 15-day injured list roughly a week later. It will go down as his only outing of the season.
After starting at least 30 games in 2021 and 2022, the 29-year-old made just total appearances in the last two seasons. He is set to make $10 million next season before potentially entering free agency.
