Softball twins go from Golden HS standouts to local college coaches

The Middleton twins starred for the Demons at Golden High School, played at Colorado Christian University and now are assistant coaches for the Cougars.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Just five years ago, the Golden Demons softball team had something special — and it came in a pair.

"Everybody's like, 'Oh, you're the Middleton twins.' And we're like, yeah, yeah, we are. So we get that all the time," Makenzie Middleton said. "And it's just so cool to see kids come out here and be like, 'Yeah, I watched you growing up.'"

They once dominated the diamond as state champ runner ups and would go on to become all Americans at Colorado Christian University under the legendary Larry Hayes.

“I’m getting goosebumps talking about it, but the four years went by fast and they were a good four years," Makayla Middleton said.

Had to be, because now they’re assistant coaches for the program and hosting a prospect recruiting camp for athletes all over the country.

“This camp is just to like for them to show their skills to us like what they can do what they can't do. So they do everything from measurements to Fielding, hitting pitching, catching everything.”

From playing on the same team, to coaching the same team, the Middleton twins have quite literally been attached at the hip since birth

“We spent our whole lives we played tennis together we played golf together we played softball together share truck. We all were kind of always room together. So we kind of just shared everything and it felt too soon to obviously not do that anymore.”

The last high school game these two played ended in defeat in the state championship.

Yet, they’d go on to win back-to-back RMAC championships, now looking to do the same as coaches.

“That game might have been the last as our high school career but then we got to go to college and look what we did there. So I think just never stops. Don't stop working”
