Cheyenne Mountain High School claimed its eighth consecutive 4A state tennis title on Saturday, but it was Kent Denver freshman Josie Schaffer who stole the spotlight.

Schaffer defeated Pueblo West's Sara Schoenbeck 6-4, 6-2 to take the No. 1 singles crown, and helped the Sun Devils secure a second place finish in the team standings.

On the No. 1 doubles court, Cheyenne Mountain came in first place. Casey Ahrendsen and Ally Arenson defeated Kent's Maeve Kearney and Amander Schlatter 6-3, 6-2.

Another impressive performance came from the No. 2 singles competition. Mattie Kuntzelman of Discovery Canyon won the title in a tie-break setting. She also became the first girls' tennis state champion in school history (it was founded in 2004).
