Being paid to play in the NBA is a dream come true, for the player and their parents.
Roger Murray started Nuggets number one pick Jamal on the road to the NBA at an early age.
“From early on as a kid I knew if he put in the work the sky’s the limit,” said Roger Murray. “Early on I knew he could do it.”
“My dad put a basketball in my hand and I’ve loved it ever since,” said Jamal.
“I had a little tykes net from Walmart and I used to play on it every day and then I got a net in the backyard and I kept continuing.”
Roger Murray taught Jamal Murray a lot, both physically and mentally.
“We called it mental kung fu,” said Roger. “It’s basically just a way of controlling your body and focusing on your goal. Knowing what you can do and what you want to do and what it takes to get here.”
Still both agree just getting to the NBA isn’t enough. It’s the beginning and not the end. Roger said his sons goal is to be the best. Michael Jordan better watch out.
