CASTLE PINES, Colo. — Castle Pines Golf Club is a dream, and while golfers aspire to shoot par, they also desire dessert.
“People come from all over the world to get our world-famous milkshakes.” Lisa Walker-Straten has been making the famous Castle Pines milkshakes for the last 13 years, “Milkshakes take us back to our childhood and they’re just something that everybody likes and looks forward to. I mean people come here and golf and the whole time they’re golfing they’re like I can’t wait to get my milkshake.”
The flavors are endless: chocolate (their most popular shake), strawberry, vanilla, oreo, butterfinger, heathbear, mint chocolate, banana, peanut butter, smores, strawberry reposado, banana rum (yes, adult beverage milkshakes can be made), and dreamsicle. You can also put ginger snaps or Castle Pines’ homemade chocolate chip cookies into your frozen treat.
They are made solely with Hagen Daz ice cream. No milk or any other supplement. During the weekend, the “Halfway House” where Lisa makes her magic happen will only be for the players and their families, but Castle Pines says there will be milkshake stations for the public all around the golf course.
Forget the BMW Championship trophy, a sweet taste is the true Castle Pines prize, “Yeah the champion will get a milkshake. The other 49? Sorry,” Walker-Straten laughed.
