ST PAUL, Minn. — The hunt for No. 10 rolls on.
The University of Denver hockey team survived an overtime thriller in the Frozen Four on Thursday evening, outlasting Boston University 2-1 in the semifinal to advance to the national championship game.
Denver, which is tied for the most national titles in NCAA history (9), will have a chance to take the outright lead when the Pioneers take the ice at the Xcel Center on Saturday, facing on the winner of Michigan vs. Boston College in the second Frozen Four game.
Michigan also boasts nine national titles.
After falling to an early 1-0 deficit in Thursday's game, the Pioneers responded with a goal from Tristan Lemyre, which was set up by Miko Matikka.
Denver and Boston University battled through a scoreless third period before Tristan Broz put the game-winner past BU goaltender Mathieu Caron at 11:09 of overtime.
The victory extends the Pioneers' winning streak to eight consecutive games.
The 2024 NCAA Frozen Four National Championship will be broadcast live on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. MT Saturday.
