GREELEY, Colo. — The Colorado Eagles announced plans on Wednesday to leave their home in Loveland and build a new arena in Greeley.

The Eagles, the AHL minor league affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced plans for a new development that would include an ice arena in west Greeley.

"The city of Greeley and Windsor’s Water Valley Company took their first public step toward growing a 5,000-acre development in west Greeley — an area developer and Colorado Eagles owner Martin Lind calls the heart of Northern Colorado," the Eagles said in a statement Wednesday. "The proposed development would include an ice arena for the Colorado Eagles hockey team."

"In just 10 minutes, the Greeley City Council met, commented and voted unanimously to have the city explore the viability of the vision Lind hopes will come to life at U.S. 34 and County Road 17," the statement continued.

The Eagles, who were founded in 2003 and currently play at Blue Arena (formerly Budweiser Events Center) in Loveland, also shared the news in a social media video.

"We're working hard to bring you a brand new, exciting new arena and three sheets of youth hockey," said Eagles owner Martin Lind. "This is going to be the epicenter of awesome for all of northern Colorado."

"It's going to have entertainment districts, it's going to have plaza, it's going to have hotels. We can't wait to bring it to you," he said.

"Eagles fans, this is personal to you. We owe this to you. You have sold out the Bud Center and the Blue Arena for decades," Lind said. "You've dedicated your lives to the Colorado Eagles, and we're going to dedicate back to you."

"We're going to bring you something so magnificent because you've earned it. We cannot wait to bring you this," he said. "It's going to be unbelievable, you're going to be so proud. It's going to belong to you."

"Northern Colorado, Eagles country, get ready for some exciting news."
