THORNTON, Colo. — Silver Creek took home the 4A CHSAA swimming state championship Friday, behind a big day from junior, James Story at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center.
The Raptors' relay team won the first event of the day, the 200 IM relay, featuring James Story who would get right back in the pool to win the 200 freestyle. Later in the day, he'd also capture the 100 freestyle state title.
"I was going in confident," Story said. "I didn't know I'd have this type of performance, but I was definitely feeling it and it paid off."
The Raptors ended the night with 329 points and a state championship, and their head coach Debbie Stewart won CHSCA Coach of the Year.
Windsor took home second place, behind a strong state performance by senior Jake Eccleston who went on to set the state record in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 53.67 seconds. Before breaking that record, he took home the 200 IM title, less than a second away from his 4A state record. Eccleston would later be named the CHSCA Swimmer of the Year.
