FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Now it's official.
The Rocky Mountain Lobos were crowned the best high school mascot in Colorado after winning the 9Preps Mascot Challenge in December.
On Friday morning, Loco the Lobo was presented with the championship banner in front of the entire school at its winter assembly. Rocky Mountain plans to hang the banner in the school's gymnasium.
The 9Preps Mascot Challenge was a five-week long project that drew nearly 300,000 page loads and more than 185,000 total votes. In each round, one mascot was pitted against another throughout the seven classifications before each winner advanced to the champions bracket.
In route to winning the inaugural Mascot Challenge, Rocky Mountain out-voted the Legend Titans, Northglenn Norsemen, Denver East Angels and Cherry Creek Bruins to claim the Class 5A field.
The Lobos then knocked off the Stratton/Liberty Knighted Eagles, Rocky Ford Meloneers and crosstown rivals Fort Collins Lambkins in the finale.
