Ralston Valley takes out Aspen in hockey state tournament

The Mustangs defeated the Skiers 6-1 in the opening round on Wednesday.

ARVADA, Colo. — Ralston Valley made sure it made the most of home-ice advantage.

The 10-seed Mustangs got to host their opening-round game of the hockey state tournament, playing 23-seed Aspen at Apex Center Ice Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

Ralston Valley was dominant, defeating the Skiers 6-1 to secure a spot in the second round of the playoffs.

The Mustangs had two goals each from both Nolah Grolnic and Ethan Ploacsek, while Cainan Stevenson and Sam Clark contributed one goal apiece.

Scoring Aspen's lone goal in the opening period was Eli Hunt.

Ralston Valley will face 7-seed Doherty in the next round at 5:40 p.m. Friday at Family Sports Center.

Aspen's season ends with a 3-11-4 overall record.
