Mark Robinson takes over at Highlands Ranch

Mark Robinson takes over the Falcons after leaving his alma mater Lakewood
Highlands Ranch head coach Mark Robinson gives instructions to his team during practice at the high school

Mark Robinson is settling in at his new home.

"Kids are kids. They're doing the same thing the kids over at Lakewood are doing. They're crazy like them, they're funny like them, they just live in a different neighborhood that's all," said Robinson.

He is taking over at Highlands Ranch High School after playing for and coaching at Lakewood High School.

"It was the toughest decision I think I've ever made in my life," Robinson told 9NEWS. "I love those kids at Lakewood, I still love Lakewood, my heart is still there. I will be rooting for Lakewood this entire season and I hope they have all the luck in the world and I hope they go undefeated."

Robinson made the move to Highlands Ranch for family reasons. First off all, he can see the high school from his home in Highlands Ranch. More importantly, his son grew up there, was getting ready to enter high school and wanted to stay with his friends.

"It's a chance to be with my son and spend the next 4 years with him and it's a chance I couldn't pass up," said Robinson.

Robinson and his staff installed a new offense, defense, and special teams at Highlands Ranch.

"Finally here in August we feel like it's finally coming together. We're finally getting the kids on the same page," said Robinson.

The Falcons are set to scrimmage Fairview High School on Friday. They open the season on August 29th when they host Pueblo Centennial.
