AURORA, Colo. — Thrice is nice for the Lutheran softball team.
Lutheran won the Class 4A championship on Saturday for the Lions' third consecutive state title.
After giving up the first run in the second inning to Riverdale Ridge, the Lions responded with six unanswered runs to defeat the Ravens 6-1 at Aurora Sports Park.
Senior pitcher Hailey Maestretti, a University of Utah commit, finished the game with 11 strikeouts.
The highlight of the game was delivered by Riverdale Ridge sophomore Jaeanna Sandoval, who robbed a home run with a diving catch over the outfield fence (video below).
Lutheran went 23-5 overall on its championship run. Riverdale Ridge finished 26-3 as runner-up.
