FORT COLLINS, Colo — The king of Colorado high school football is leaving with a crown.
Erie quarterback Blake Barnett shattered multiple records over his career with the Tigers but went into his senior season this fall without a state championship.
Not anymore.
Barnett led Erie on a championship run, which culminated Saturday afternoon with a 20-6 win over Palmer Ridge in the Class 4A title game at CSU's Canvas Stadium.
"This is the greatest feeling I think I've ever had in my life," Barnett said after the game. "We finally did it."
Erie has only won a football championship once before in program history, and this is the Tigers' first since 1997.
Palmer Ridge, which entered the final game undefeated, finishes 13-1 overall as runner-up.
