BROOMFIELD, Colo — The champs are one step closer to defending their crown.
Broomfield, the reigning Class 4A football champion and No. 4 seed in this year's playoff bracket, advanced to the state semifinals with a 38-6 win over No. 5 Mesa Ridge on the Eagles' home field on Saturday afternoon.
"After our first couple of weeks, maybe week 5, we had a talk with the team and said this is not us. This isn't Broomfield," senior running back Brent Harris said.
"Since then, we made the switch, we've gotten close and really became a brotherhood on the field."
Broomfield advances to face No. 1 Palmer Ridge in the semifinals next weekend with a trip to the championship game on the line.
Mesa Ridge's season ends with an 8-4 overall record.
