Valor Christian advances to 5A girls Final Four

The Eagles defeated Fossil Ridge 63-22 in the Great Eight on Friday night.

DENVER — The memories from a year ago drive them.

Returning to the Denver Coliseum on Friday night, the Valor Christian girls basketball team was reminded of the painful defeat they suffered in the Great Eight a year ago.

This time, the Eagles flipped the script.

1-seed Valor Christian was dominant -- defeating 8-seed Fossil Ridge 63-22 to advance to its first state semifinal game since moving up to Class 5A.

"We did not want to end our season like we did last year," sophomore forward Reagan Beers said. "We were pumped up and ready to go. It was a special moment."

The Eagles shot out to a commanding 42-11 lead by halftime thanks to a game-high 13 points from Beers.

Valor had a balanced offensive attack -- as Jenna Siebert (12 points), Karissa Lukasiewcz (12), Kindyll Wetta (10) and Skyler Boylan (10) all reached double figures.

The Eagles will face 4-seed Grandview in the Final Four next Thursday at the Coliseum. Valor was bounced from last year's tournament by the Wolves on this same court.

"I think we'll play with nothing to lose," Beers said. "We're going to come out with as much intensity as possible to try and get revenge."

Fossil Ridge's season ends with a 21-5 overall record.
