Grandview hangs on to edge Regis Jesuit in Great Eight

The Wolves topped the Raiders 48-41 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Class 5A Final Four.

DENVER — There's nothing like a crosstown rivalry in a playoff atmosphere.

5-seed Grandview and 29-seed Regis Jesuit represented Aurora well in the 5A boys Great Eight on Saturday afternoon at the Denver Coliseum. Ultimately, it was the Wolves who pulled out the narrow 48-41 victory in the finals minutes.

"They were a good team. We knew that coming into it," senior forward Caleb McGill said. "They put up a good fight. All props to them."

The defeat ends Regis Jesuit's Cinderella story in the 2020 state playoffs. The Raiders upset 4-seed Cherry Creek and 13-seed Denver East in route to the Coliseum.

Lian Ramiro led Grandview with 15 points, while McGill put up 14 and Cade Coles scored 10.

Regis Jesuit was led by Blakely Stoughton's team-high 15 points and another 13 from Alonzo Paul.

Grandview will play the winner of 1-seed Rangeview and 9-seed Columbine in the Final Four next Friday back at the Coliseum.

Regis Jesuit's season ends with a 13-14 overall record.

"It's always good to win on the weekend," McGill said. "We'll come back Monday and go right back to work like nothing happened."
