DENVER β The Angels are back on top.
Denver East brought home its first boys basketball state title on Saturday, defeating Fossil Ridge 82-61 in the Class 6A championship game at the Denver Coliseum.
It was also a historic win for head coach Rudy Carey, who became the first to win 10 state titles.
"It's all about them, not about me," Carey said after the win. "We wanted to make it fun for them. They worked extremely hard for this."
Denver East was powered by Jack Greenwood's game-high 27 points and another 25 from D'Aundre Samuels, while Fossil Ridge rode a team-high 26 points from Nick Randall.
The Angels went 26-2 overall on their championship run, reeling off 26 victories in a row after an 0-2 start to the season.
Fossil Ridge finishes 25-3 overall as runner-up.
