Fairview's Bekkem Kritza is back and better

Bekkem Kritza once led Colorado in passing yards as a freshman but was forced to move for an emergency family situation. Now he's back, better, and ready to dominate

BOULDER, Colorado — When it comes to football, there's no undervaluing the quarterback position.

The state of Colorado has some pretty impressive talent at signal caller, but the QB room just got a whole lot better with a familiar face back in town.

“This young man is older and wiser and more mature and I mean, he has gifts and he's very very talented,” Fairview Knights head football coach, Tom McCartney said.

By way of Fairview, then Santa Margarita High School in Cali to Miami Central, and back to Fairview, junior 4-star quarterback Bekkam Kritza moved back to take care of home.

“I moved back for family reasons,” Kritza said. "I have to take care of the people that took care of me."

As a freshman, Kritza threw for 3,192 yards and 22 touchdowns at Fairview, leading the state of Colorado, and two years later, it’s good to be back!

“It felt pretty good just to be out there all my boys because I mean, I grew up with a lot of these kids and you know we played on the same youth football team the Boulder Bears," Kritza said. "So I mean, just going out there with those guys and with the rest of my teammates it was awesome.”

Kritza wasn't approved to play again by CHSAA until week 6 against Poudre, and in his very first possession, aired it out for 55 yards later.

“He has some gifts you can't coach," coach McCartney said. "I mean his height is unbelievable and you can't coach that, when you see him throw his quick release it's like wow, who taught you that? How did you learn that? I mean it and then he's got a very strong arm, and he's got excellent vision he sees things.”

Officially back in Boulder, it’s fitting that his first, of many offers, came from Colorado.

“I've been out there pretty much every weekend since I've been back," Kritza said. "Watching games, talking to Coach Prime, all those guys are great guys. I know that campus very well. I've been up there multiple times probably more than I can count.”

With more offers from Miami, Texas A&M, Pitt, and Penn State, it's hard to guess where Kritza will end up.
