AURORA, Colo. — Time to party like it's 1997!
The Chatfield softball team captured its first state title in 26 years on Saturday, defeating Erie 11-3 in the Class 5A championship game.
After allowing the game's first run, the Chargers broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to take control. They added four more in the sixth frame for insurance.
Chatfield went 23-6 overall on its championship run, which included rattling off a 15-game win streak in route to the state title.
Erie also went 23-6 overall and finished as runner-up.
