Catching up with high school athletes affected by pandemic

Arielle Orsuto held a virtual round table discussion with Colorado high school athletes affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

DENVER — It was a way to get high school seniors together to discuss the abrupt end to the winter season and the uncertainty of the spring season, as well as life after high school sports.

I invited any and all seniors to join through Twitter and Facebook, and four senior girls accepted my invitation -- two basketball players and two soccer players.

A former soccer player and current MLS broadcaster joined as well to co-moderate.

Included in the Zoom round table discussion were:

  • Taylor Lewis, Pagosa Springs senior basketball player
  • Teagan Stretton, Pagosa Springs senior basketball player

Both Lewis and Stretton's seasons were cut short in the Final Four round of the Class 3A girls basketball state tournament. The Pirates were 20-4 on the season and slated to play St. Mary's in the semifinals.

  • Emma Ryan, Mullen senior goalkeeper

Ryan will be playing Division III girls soccer in Bryn Mawr Colle in Pennsylvania next year.

  • Chelsey Stock, Broomfield senior soccer player

Stock will play Division I girls soccer at the University of Hawaii next year.

  • Jordan Angeli -- former Green Mountain High School star soccer player, turned pro soccer player

Angeli tore her ACL three times and wanted to share her story with the girls about life after high school. She joined the call to co-moderate with the conversation. She talked to them about her opportunities in broadcasting and staying close to the sport she loved working for MLS.
