CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — The Castle View Sabercats began the season on a strong start, 4-0, and with 25 seniors on the roster.
“It feels like a brotherhood," senior running back, Camden Tobler said. "It feels like we're all super close, we know each other, we know how to communicate if we feel upset about something, if we feel passionate about something, we let each other know and we get it done.”
According to the team, the successful start to the 2024 season, has been four years in the making.
“We went from 2-8 to like 8-3, and just since then, our leadership and our accountability just went up every single season, every year, and that started with the coaches, the players that just start with everybody,” senior offensive tackle, Peter Jean-Baptist said.
Under head coach Frank Martin, the Sabercats put up 37 consecutive points over their rivals, Douglas County for the Battle of the Rock.
“We came back from 16-0 and beat him 37-16 so, I mean, it feels amazing,” Tobler expressed.
In that win, major props goes to that O-line, scoring on every red zone possession.
“Everybody wins that's their job," senior offensive guard, Evan Gaston said. "They don't focus on, 'Oh, we're going to score.' We focus on winning our job. Each person wins their job so that we can win it as a team.”
What makes this team so unique are the 25 seniors on the roster, 20 of them are starters.
“We want to have the best season we can," senior running back Aaron Perry said. "To be our senior year, and knowing that basically the whole team is seniors, we just do the best we can because who knows what's next?”
With that maturity, Castle View is operating like professionals. It helps to have former Denver Bronco, Joel Dreesen as the tight ends coach.
“It's a cool thing," Perry said. "Because, I mean, he'll give us examples from when he was in the league, and it's definitely cool to have someone to look up to that's been at the level that we all, I mean, for most of us, want to get to."
Next year, this team will look completely different, but they're not looking ahead just yet.
“Our last year, it's definitely a little bit sad, Tobler said. "But I mean, we continue to win, so that makes it a little bit more fun.
