COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The final boys soccer game of the year had to be one of, if not the, best.
Broomfield and Denver East squared off in the Class 5A state championship game Saturday night at Weidner Field in a classic thriller.
A full 80 minutes of regulation, plus another 30 over two overtime periods weren't enough to decide a victor.
Ultimately, it was the Eagles who defeated the defending-champion Angels on penalty kicks to capture the state title.
"Craziest game ever," said senior Marcus Von, who scored in the 58th minute on a bicycle kick. "It feels amazing. This is what we've been working for, for so long."
Broomfield has now captured nine state championships in program history. The Eagles went 16-2-2 overall in route to the title.
Denver East finishes 15-5 overall as runner-up.
