KUSA - Many NHL players say it feels like they were born on hockey skates. However, there are some, like Avalanche second round pick A.J. Greer who have spent significant time on a different kind of skate.
"I started figure skating when I was four and continues until I was twelve," said Greer. "I stopped to focus on hockey, but it was a really good advantage."
It's an advantage a few other NHL players like Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby have as well. Those two stars Greer says only did it for two years, while he was on figure skates for eight.
"I was actually in a couple competitions, but hockey was really my passion," Greer said.
Greer admitted he was a pretty good figure skater, but his older brother was much better. In fact, he's making a career on figure skates as one of the stars of Disney on Ice.
