Elway continues to work on Hall of Fame speech

DENVER (AP) -- John Elway is already writing the fourth version of the speech he will read during his Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio on August eighth.

The former Denver Broncos quarterback said he's nervous about keeping his emotions in check while standing on the podium. His remarks came today during a news conference promoting a flag football game that will be played in his honor. The event -- "A Game of Fame" -- will match Elway and other former Broncos against former San Francisco quarterback Joe Montana and former all stars. The game will be August 20th at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver. Governor Owens has proclaimed that day "John Elway Colorado Football Celebration Day." Former Broncos coach Dan Reeves will coach Elway's team in the game -- a sure sign that the rift between him and Elway has healed. Reeves was fired in 1992 and the Broncos went on to win back-to-back Super Bowls with coach Mike Shanahan. (Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
