Fresh off a National Championship victory, the DU Pioneers hockey head coach, Jim Montgomery, will take an interview with the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Florida for their head coaching position.
There's no question after the success the Pioneers have had in the past four years Montgomery has been the head coach, winning the national title with a 33-7-4 record this year and having two successful 40-game seasons, that the coach is on the radar of many NHL teams.
Montgomery leaving the program may lead to a few player departures as well.
The Florida Panthers first pick in the 2016 NHL Draft (23rd overall) and star forward for the Pioneers, freshman Henrik Borgstrom may be one of those players to follow his former coach to the NHL.
Along with Borgstrom, other leading scorers such as sophomore Troy Terry (Anaheim Ducks prospect) and Dylan Gambrell (San Jose prospect) may also reconsider returning to the Pioneers.
The 47-year-old coach hasn't yet confirmed a date for the interview.
