NEW YORK — New York Yankee DJ LeMahieu has been chosen the W.B. Mason American League Player of the Week, Major League Baseball announced Monday.
The honor is LeMahieu's first career AL Player of the Week Award.
LeMahieu was named a All-Star Game starter for the American League last week.
Last week, LeMahieu batted .625 (15-for-24) with eight runs scored, three doubles, a triple, two home runs, 10 RBI and a 1.083 slugging percentage across five games played.
The former Colorado Rockie entered Monday in the midst of 12-game streak in which he has notched at least one hit and a run scored dating back to June 16.
The streak is the sixth-longest streak in franchise history, trailing only Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig (15, 1930), Joe DiMaggio (14, 1941) and Babe Ruth (14, 1926; 13, 1921), as well as Bernie Williams (13, 2000).
On Saturday, LeMahieu recorded the first hit in Europe in Major League Baseball history with a leadoff single at London Stadium.
